Clothing Prices to Rise 10% Starting in Spring
The era of falling clothing prices is ending. Clothing prices have
dropped for a decade as tame inflation and cheap overseas labor helped hold
down costs.
Retailers and clothing makers cut frills and experimented with fabric blends
to cut prices during the recession. But as the world economy recovers and
demand for goods rises, a surge in labor and raw materials costs is squeezing
retailers and manufacturers who have run out of ways to pare costs.
1. era(N):年(时)代,clothing(N):服装,decade(N):十年,tame(adj):温驯的、听话的
,inflation(N):物价膨胀,hold down:压制,frill(N):衣服摺边,experiment(V、N):
实验,fabric blend:混纺织物,recession(N):不景气,good(N):物品,surge(N):上升
,raw material:原物料,squeeze(V):挤压,retailer(N):经销商,run out:用尽,
pare(V):削减。
的是衣服价格由於inflation(通货膨胀)较tame(温和),加上labor(劳力)价格相对较
的薪资等价格),因此一直在falling(下降),相反词就是surge(上升)或rising,在经济
4. squeeze(V):挤得意思,例如to squeeze a toothpaste tube(挤一条牙膏),另外在商
Ms. Smith squeezed in my
appointment with Dr. Jones.(史密斯小姐将我排入琼斯医师的门诊了。)
零用件,parent(N):双亲,parings(N):碎屑。
