Does the word before a noun must always be an adjective?
The answer is "not always."
It is actually quite common (and grammatically correct)
to use a noun as an adjective to modify another noun.
For example,
In the phrase "mountain bike,"
the noun "mountain" is used as an adjective to modify another noun "bike."
Some other examples are:
a mail man, room services, paper towels, pickle jars,
bacon sandwiches, dog food, car dealers, etc.
So, we may approach the problem 7.) by the process of elimination.
C.) is obviously wrong, so it is the first one out.
Now, in the sentence, let's consider this:
Is something "associating" with "conferences", or
is something "associated" with "conferences"?
The answer is no, so both A.) and B.) cannot be right.
So we are left with D.), and this usage is cultural.
In America, there are lots of professional associations (工会),
many of them hold regular meetings.
To attend such a meeting is a good way to meet other people
in the same trade.
The question 8.) is similar to 7.)
