Winner of international magician competition returns to Taiwan (2010/06/16) A 25-year-old Taiwanese man who took top prize in an international magic show in Japan returned to Taiwan Wednesday. Chen Ri-sheng陈日昇, who goes by the stage name “Magic Deo,” plans to go into show business even though he was near the top of his class at one of Taiwan’s best universities. In addition to costume changes, Chen produces an umbrella and even a surfboard from thin air, winning rounds of applause from the audience. This is the part of Chen’s performance that saw him named grand champion. Chen Ri-sheng Magician I’m very happy. Because this is the first time someone from Taiwan has won the Japan International Magic Competition. Chen is only 25 years old and is a graduate of Chengchih University’s Department of Economics. At the competition, in addition to being grand champion, he was selected by the audience as the best magician and was awarded a special prize by the Asian Magic Association. Besides his mouth, Chen is known for his flexible tongue. Although he was among the university’s top economics students, Chen has created a new future for himself in the world of magic.
