Newly named starting point guard Derrick White is the latest victim. The
second-year pro will miss Friday night's game against Orlando with left heel
pain, according to the injury report released by the Spurs on Thursday.
White was named the starter after Dejounte Murray suffered a season-ending
knee injury in Sunday's loss to Houston. The Spurs are also without rookie
guard Lonnie Walker IV, who is expected to miss six to eight weeks after
undergoing knee surgery Monday.
With White out, the Spurs are likely to turn to veteran Patty Mills to start
at the point against the Magic in the preseason finale.
In 29 minutes in Thursday's 130-127 loss to the Hawks in Atlanta, White
scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists in his
first start since Murray's injury.
Selected 29th overall in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft, White played
in just 17 games for the Spurs last season, but he helped lead the Austin
Spurs to the G League Championship by averaging 24.8 points, 4.8 re-bounds,
4.0 assists and 1.8 steals in 32.8 minutes.
White missed 12 games with a fractured wrist last season.
