That’s 44 combined years of basketball experience right there. But according to Spurs’ Coach Gregg Popovich, the team has a tool to make that transition easier. Gasol, who averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds and 4.1 assists with the Chicago Bulls last season, said he’s had his eyes on the Spurs for a while, long before he decided to sign with them in July. “They have been an example for all the teams in the league,” Gasol said. ” I love the game. I love to play the right way. I love the team concept of the game and that’s what San Antonio has been all about. It’s been team-first, players and individuals second. And he knows a lot is going to be asked of him in Duncan’s absence. And work as hard as I can to do that.” Gasol said he’s looking forward to helping the Spurs transition into a new era. “It’s very hard to replace the things that [Duncan] did on the floor, especially because of his presence, the way that he had in the locker room,” Gasol said. “You can’t substitute that, I think. So all of the other guys are going to have to pick up from the leadership standpoint, the presence standpoint.
