Eiji Sawamura (Babe Ruth's Japanese counterpart) Card
The legendary super pitcher in Japanese baseball history.
Eiji Sawamura (Feb. 1, 1917 - Dec. 2, 1944)
On Nov. 11, 1934, He faced a team of visiting all-star players from Major
League Baseball, including Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, and Charlie
Gehringer. He got strike out Gehringer, Ruth, Gehrig, and Foxx. He was only
Japanese pitcher who got strike out from Babe Ruth 3 times.
In 1943, after the Pearl Harbor attacks, Sawamura enlisted in the Japanese
Imperial Navy. He was killed in battle near the Ryukyu Islands when his ship
was torpedoed near the end of World War II.
