Ferrer死里逃生五盘击败小班 美网首次打进第四轮 当选美网 PLAYER OF THE DAY

When he came off the court in Louis Armstrong Stadium after his match versus
No. 24 seed David Nalbandian, No. 15 seed David Ferrer was as much a survivor
as a winner, after a three hour and 57 minute battle. This is the first time
in five US Open outings that he has made it to the fourth round.
A tired Ferrer commented on his play after the match. “Well, now I am
playing very well, no? I [am] happy with my game. Maybe the best moment of me
of the year.”
In his seventh year as a pro (he played in his first Grand Slam tournaments
in 2003), Ferrer has made steady progress. Currently ranked 15th in the
world, he was as high as No. 10 in January of 2006.
Ferrer has long been considered a better player on clay, in fact his
best-ever Grand Slam finish was a quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros in
2005.
“Maybe in clay it's more easy for me, because we have best rallies, no? And
they can play the baseline. In hard court it's more difficult, because the
ball is more fast and the court is more fast. But for a good ranking I need
to play in hard court and in clay court.”
In 2007, while he has not finished higher than the fourth round at any of the
Grand Slams, he has had quite a successful year on the ATP tour, winning at
Auckland and Bastad, and making the semi-finals at Barcelona. He reached the
quarterfinals at seven other tournaments, including Cincinnati where he upset
defending champion Andy Roddick.
With No. 2 seed Rafael Nadal next up for him, Ferrer has his work cut out for
him.
“I don't want to think (about that) now because I'm tired,” he said with a
smile. “If I think (about) Nadal, I'm more tired. No, Nadal, you know, he's
unbelievable player, no? He plays with very good level. He runs so much. It's
difficult to win (against) him.”
