The Spaniard suffered the injury on his run to last week's Wimbledon final and has not recovered in time to compete in the claycourt event in Stuttgart. The world number two, who lost to Roger Federer at SW19, will be replaced in the draw by Germany's Denis Gremelmayr. Former French Open champion Gaston Gaudio of Argentina is now the top seed for the ￡375,000 tournament in Germany.
