Juan Carlos Ferrero Ferrero faces in next round the Australian Open champion Marat Safin after the Russian beat Czech Lukas Dlouhy 6-7 6-3 7-5 6-1. Former champion Juan Carlos Ferrero reached the third round of the French Open on Thursday after beating Jan Hernych 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Ferrero, who won at Roland Garros in 2003, is seeded 32nd after his ranking plummeted largely because of chickenpox and a rib injury last year. The former top-ranked player has not won a title this year, but he has started to rediscover his form. He reached the semifinals at the Monte Carlo Masters and the final at Barcelona. "I'm pretty happy, I'm playing good tennis right now," Ferrero said. "But it's hard to compare with two years ago. Step by step, I'm getting better." Ferrero said the bandage on his left thigh was there only a preventative measure. "I've been wearing it since Saturday, but I felt no pain out there," Ferrero said.
