Up close and personal with Jeff and Sky
In an exclusive interview with Jeff and Sky, YTL Community's Joanne Tay
finds out what they love about this multi-ethnic country, their fans, and
their passion for charity concerts.
Tay: I understand you haven't been to Malaysia in quite a while, what
are the changes you have noticed about the country since your last
visit?
Jeff: My trip here this time is quite short but I do see a lot of changes
compared to when I was here three years ago. Besides the KLCC Twins
Towers and a few other buildings, I find that there are a lot of new
buildings, malls and hotels that I don't recognise. I remember when
I came the last time the Monorail was under construction but now it's
ready and running. There are also a lot of new reporters that I don't
recognise.
What do you think of your Malaysian fans?
Jeff: The Malaysian fans are very warm and friendly. Since I seldom come to
Malaysia to perform and usually go to Singapore, I am touched that the
Malaysian fans will travel all the way to Singapore for my concert,
like the last one I held in September, where I saw a lot of Malaysian
fans there.
Sky: I happen to be the opposite of Jeff and come to Malaysia almost every
year but I haven't been to Singapore for nearly 3-4 years. So, my
Singapore fans have been coming to Malaysia to see me perform instead.
I find my the fans here are really supportive and faithful. There are
many who have supported me since their schooldays and are still
supporting me now.
How did both of you get to be involved in this charity concert?
Jeff: Someone contacted our agents and our agents contacted us and told us
about this idea of a charity concert. So, we thought it was a good
idea to combine a concert together with a charity drive to raise
funds, furthermore it being the Christmas season. Not only can we
hold a concert for our fans but also at the same time we can also
help the less fortunate. Not only in Malaysia but in other places as
well, if there is a charity concert, we would be more than happy to
perform and help out.
Sky: I am very happy that we can participate in this charity concert and use
some love and care to help those in need. I also came last year to Miri
to perform for a charity concert to raise funds for a dialysis centre.
I have also performed in Vietnam, Beijing and Shanghai all for charity
purposes.
When was your last visit to Malaysia?
Sky: The last time I came here was about a year ago.
What do you like about Malaysia?
Jeff: The last time when I came, I like to visit the local market to look at
unique things made the various races. If I come across interesting
things, I would buy it home as decorative items such as the rattan
ball and batik material. I find it very beautiful and bought a lot
home.
There is one place that I really want to visit and that is East Malaysia as
I have never been there before. This is because I like nature and beaches
and I am into water sports. I would like to visit a nice island in East
Malaysia for a few days and go diving. This is what I currently really,
really want to do.
Sky: Every time I come to Malaysia, it's for work so I don't really have
the opportunity to visit the local markets and tourist places. But the
places that I have been to while on work are Johor Bahru, Malacca,
Kluang, Ipoh, East Coast and Penang. However, I had the opportunity
to come here for a holiday with my friends a few years ago and I went
to Pangkor Island. It was very beautiful and natural. The chalet where
I stayed was near a jungle and there were a lot of monkeys. They were
very fierce and would snatch our food. Even before our breakfast came,
they were already knocking on the door as if asking, “Where is my
breakfast?”
The impression I have of Malaysia is that there is a lot of tourist spots
to visit and a lot of jungles and forests. There are also a lot of small
little islands suitable for tourists
