Double Delight
Double Voices in Radio Town
Jeff Chang and Sky Wu
Singapore Indoor Stadium
Last Saturday
By Sherwin Loh
THEY made fun of each other and sang each other's songs, to the
audience's delight.
Best buddies Sky Wu and Jeff Chang left the 8,000-strong crowd wanting
more in their one-night-only concert last Saturday.
The Taiwanese singers burst onstage for a combined four-song medley,
before Wu started on his 45-minute solo set.
He performed a rich mixture of sentimental ballads and dance-infused
number, raising the energy levels for the two-hour concert.
Paving the way for Chang to take over, he had no qualms in acknowledging
that his vocal-heavy buddy was the highlight of the show.
Chang delivered a string of his classic ballads, like Over Excited and
Don't Tell Him, each one sung in a clear, crisp falsetto.
After the two completed their own individual segments, they returned
together to present a medley of Chinese pop tunes, starting with The
Genius And The Retard by the King of Cantopop, Sam Hui, and ending with
two numbers, Assault of The Eastern Wind by Jay Chou and Black Sky by
Singapore's Stefanie Sun.
The highlight of the concert was not just their vocal performances, but
also the easy rapport and camaraderie between the two friends.
At one point, Wu pointed out one of Chang\'s song and dance numbers in
his pre-fame years and proceeded to tease the crooner about it.
Wu then performed that song, accompanied by his own slick new moves.
Chang returned the favour by giving a more evocative rendition of one of
Wu's old sentimental numbers.
Their little "battle" finally ended, when Wu "forced" Chang to duplicate
the slick moves which he had executed earlier.
Chang, in a comic display, eventually fell to the floor in mock defeat.
