Year In Review: Steven Hunter http://tinyurl.com/jkuck Steven Hunter had his best season as a pro last year, beating his personal best marks for every category except games played, free throws attempted and made, and blocked shots. He did particularly well when inserted into the starting lineup and closed out the season strong with 5 out of the last 6 games contributing double figure points. For a 7-footer, Hunter is a woeful rebounder. He shoots a Shaq-like 60% from the field and 50% from the line. He proceeded to play through whatever health concerns they had to finish the season here in Philadelphia. Due to HIPPA regulations, I cannot tell you why. Actually, I do not know but thought it would be good to blame it on HIPPA. You’ve gotta love all those forms you have to sign at the doctor’s office. All this just to turn my head and cough! I can’t tell you which drugs because, well…you know:) There’s a good article here by Phil Jasner on the trade that determined the signing of Hunter must have been a mistake and quoting Billy King as saying “it didn’t work”. Jasner says that Hunter couldn’t rebound the way they hoped he would. Then he had to make things work with Hunter. After that, Steven played much better. This should tell King something else about sticking with a situation and working through it rather than bailing on it. He’s done it with Iguodala, Korver, Dalembert, and Green. 好，当 Billy 发现连交易也行不通时，他开始想办法让 Hunter 发挥他的作用。而 自从那件未完成的交易之後，Steven 也打得更好了。这件事应该告诉 King 有些时 候应该多坚持一阵子并且想办法突破困境，而不是就此放弃。他已经这样对待过 Iguodala、Korver、Dalembert 和 Green。 What we’ve found out doesn’t work is Billy King as GM. Steven Hunter is not going to change the fate of your basketball team, but he’ll compliment the team well and give you another big man with the athleticism to cause problems offensively and defensively. You still need help on the boards, but having Hunter in your rotation brings depth upfront that can give you an advantage against most teams slower centers. He was the best free agent big man available when they let Marc Jackson go, with Dale Davis and Christian Laettner as the best alternatives. Even though I think he got this one right, Billy King’s waffling on trading Hunter and then having him return shows me that he doesn’t know how to solve the mess the Sixers are in or even where to start.
