Billy King let go veteran influences Aaron McKie, Greg Buckner, and Eric Snow over the past 2 seasons. Suddenly, the Sixers found themselves without a bench. The only capable backup behind Korver, Iguodala, and Iverson was John Salmons. While this presented a great opportunity for him, the pressure of being counted on at 3 positions eventually got to him and wore him down as the season went down the tubes. Being asked to do too much, Salmons never quite settled into a role where he and the team could reach a comfort zone. It looked like John was finally ready to fulfill all the promise that people anticipated of him when he became a Sixer after a stellar career at the University of Miami. However, he was never able to sustain those good stretches over an entire season. Once Iverson returned and found his rhythm, Salmons lost his and struggled to regain it back. 在一开始 Salmons 的表现是很抢眼的，特别是 Iverson、Webber、Dalembert 都 受伤的情况下。看起来似乎当年在迈阿密大学有明星级表现的後卫，已经完全准备 好让喜爱他的球迷们，重新为他喝采。然而，他却从未能够保持好的表现一整季。 只要 Iverson 回到场上找到他的节奏，Salmons 就会再度失去自我并且得挣扎一 阵子才能重新上轨道。 Truth be told, Salmons and Iverson never gelled together on the court. Salmons had his best performances with Iverson on the bench wearing street clothes. Likewise, Iverson struggled with getting the other players involved in the offense. He found a rhythm with the veteran Webber early in the season and then again with Korver as he settled into his role off the bench. Steven Hunter even found some consistency with The Answer when he took starting duties from Dalembert in the second half. Without Iverson in the lineup, Salmons became the freelancing facilitator that worked by itself but never with another ballhandler. The role that Salmons took all season to establish turned out to be nonexistent for this team. Because of the talents of Iverson with the ball in his hands, Salmons was never able to get his hands on his true position. He is a point guard who does not play well off the ball. Unless you move Iverson back off the ball or drastically reduce his minutes, you have no need for a player like Salmons. 在 Mo Cheeks 悠哉悠哉的行事作风以及战术下，Salmons 没法在几乎没有结构性战术 的球队里找到他的角色。只有在 Iverson 不在先发名单中时， Salmons 才得以自由 自在地发挥，因为没有另一个人来跟他分担控球。这样的结果就是 Salmons 无法在这 支球队找到自己真正的定位。因为一球在手，希望无穷的 Iverson 使得 Salmons 无法 在他真正适合的位置发挥。他是个球不在手上发挥不出威力的控球後卫。除非你让 Iverson 不拿球，或是大幅降低他的上场时间，否则你不需要 Salmons 这样的球员。 So, going into an offseason as a restricted free agent when your roadblock to success is on the trading block leaves us to wonder - is Salmons a viable option to keep in the event that trading Iverson does not yield a dominant ball hog? With Ollie, Louis Williams, and possibly Willie Green to compete for playing time, it probably isn’t a question worth answering. There’s plenty of other teams who have a need for Salmons’ talents and can present him with enough breathing room to operate. Don’t be surprised if he becomes successful with a good team. Good teams have a way of making players look better and bringing the most out of their talents. With Salmons vast potential untapped, he should look to find a place where he can establish himself as another one of the Sixers’ unfortunate mistakes. 因此，在季後成为受限制自由球员的 Salmons 被贴上出售的标签时，不禁让我们思考 ：如果把 Iverson 交易掉之後，换来的球员不是霸着球不放的家伙，Salmons 会不会 是一个可行的选择？然而当球队里还有 Ollie、Louis Williams 甚至 Willie Green (编按：日前 King 已经签下来了)，这个问题的答案自然无须多言。市场上有很多球队 需要 Salmons 的天赋并且能够提供他够多的空间来发挥。当他在一支好球队里表现出 色时也不用讶异。好球队有办法让球员看起来更好并且让他们的天份发挥出来。由於 Salmons 还有许多未开发的潜力，他应该好好找个地方能够让自己扬名立万的，告诉 世人它是另一个七六人犯下的另一个不幸错误。 译者後记：交易到同区的 Salmons 明年一定会遇到不少次，去 Raptors 看起来的确 比去 Suns 更好(反正 Salmons 的强项也不是空档跳投:P)。衷心祝福当年的鲑鱼小弟 可以变成暴龙的另一支利爪。 Goodbye, Johnny. --
