Sharapova pulls out of Istanbul From correspondents in Istanbul May 19, 2006 RUSSIA'S 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova was forced to withdraw from next week's Istanbul Open today because she has failed to recover from a right ankle injury. The 19-year-old had originally replaced American Lindsay Davenport, who is also injured. "Miss Sharapova wrote to the organisers, informing them that her right ankle injury had not healed well enough for her to play in the tournament," read a statement from the organisers.
