One of the main reasons for this idea was the Swedish model of welfare. What we will present is the historical background to Swedish modernityin general and the Swedish model of social welfare especially. Important historical components of Swedish modernity is a strong state, a dominating social democracy (from the 1930s) that put family and housing policy together with public health on top of the political agenda. From this background we will discuss the specific form of welfare model that developed in Sweden and other Nordic countries, in comparison with other welfare models internationally.
