四个同住一间宿舍的女大学生，所学都是戏剧表演。某次的作业是研读剧
本《双重不忠》，结果剧中情节对她们的真实生活产生奇妙的影响，尤其
是她们如何处理爱情、性慾、信任、背叛、犯罪、艺术等人生课题。
Once again exploring the complex world of the theater, Rivette
examines the intertwined relationships of four actresses studying
with a renowned director (Bulle Ogier). While rehearsing for a
production of Pierre Marivaux's "La Double Inconstance," they are
visited by a mysterious stranger (Laurence Côte) who develops an
intimate relationship with each of the women while concealing his
motives. As in Rivette's earlier films about the stage, the
boundaries between the "real lives" of his characters and the
play-within-the-film are effortlessly blurred, furthering the
director's career-long contemplation of performance in everyday life.
