That's fine with the Giants, who maintained their postseason push with a 3-1 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pat Burrell delivered a fourth-inning homer to generate all of the Giants' scoring. San Francisco maintained its two-game lead in the National League West in front of San Diego, which subdued the Chicago Cubs, 3-0. The Giants nevertheless trimmed their magic number for clinching the division title to three. Any combination of Giants victories and Padres defeats totaling three will bring the division crown to San Francisco. As everybody monitoring this race knows by now, following Thursday's series finale against Arizona, the Giants will entertain the Padres in a three-game showdown series beginning Friday at AT&T Park. San Diego's victory insured that the Giants will not win the division before the Padres series starts. By limiting the Padres to one run -- Stephen Drew's game-opening homer -- in seven innings, Lincecum indicated that he remains strong for what the Giants hope will be his next assignment: the Division Series opener against a yet-to-be-determined opponent next Wednesday or Thursday. Lincecum (16-10) issued four walks, matching the number of free passes he issued in his previous five September starts. But he also struck out 11, reaching double figures for the seventh time this season and hiking his season total to a league-high 231. Lincecum essentially sealed his third consecutive NL strikeout title before he threw a pitch, since his closest rivals in that category, Philadelphia's Roy Halladay, St. Louis' Adam Wainwright and Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw, won't pitch again this season. The Phillies are skipping Halladay's final regular-season turn to rest him for the Division Series. The Giants couldn't do much with Arizona starter Ian Kennedy (9-10), but they did enough.
