04/29/2006 2:21 AM ET Bonds, Alou back Schmidt's first win Frandsen gets three hits, scores three runs in debut By Rick Eymer / Special to MLB.com Jason Schmidt has won 10 straight decisions against the Diamondbacks. (Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images) SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds and Moises Alou have combined to play in 4,509 Major League games, and Friday night, they shared the spotlight with Kevin Frandsen, who was making his Major League debut. "I grew up loving [Bonds] as a fan," Frandsen said. "To be his teammate is something special. I was so pumped up just to be on base when he was up. This was unbelievable. We won and I got to contribute to it." Frandsen returned to the clubhouse with shaving cream smeared over his face and down his dirt-caked uniform. "He's an injection of energy for this team," Giants manager Felipe Alou said after a 10-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jason Schmidt turned in his best effort of the young season to earn his first win, soothing any worries the Giants' top brass had about the veteran right- hander. "I don't say I'm excited too often, but I'm excited about this one," Schmidt said. "This was the best I've felt overall, as far as pitch selection and everything, in a long, long time." Schmidt (1-2) allowed two runs on five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts to beat the Diamondbacks for his 10th straight victory against them in his last 14 games. His 14 overall wins against Arizona are his most against any team. "It just happens to work out that way," Schmidt said. "Part of it is sheer coincidence because they give me some of the best battles of any team." Schmidt reached 94 mph on his final pitch of the night, a pitch Diamondbacks pinch-hitter Andy Green had no chance to hit. "I had thrown a lot of pitches after three innings, so I took something off to try and get quick outs," Schmidt said. "I wasn't going to go deep into the game unless I got some of those outs. It worked and I had a lot left at the end." Schmidt also helped himself by walking just two batters and avoiding the home run ball. In his previous 27 innings, Schmidt had given up 16 walks and four homers. "There's always something to work on in the bullpen, but it's just a routine and you try to stay on an even keel," Schmidt said. "There have been flashes for me and I felt the last four or five innings in Colorado [in his last start ], I was getting into a flow. My problem had been giving up the three-run homer. I kept the ball in the park today." Bonds doubled, singled and drove in four runs and Alou hit a home run, singled twice and drove in four runs as the Giants ended a two-game skid. "Mo was joking to me a few days ago that he would get 150 RBIs," Alou said. "Just let them walk Bonds. He might make some people change their minds [about walking Bonds] a few times." Frandsen, who replaced the injured Ray Durham on the Giants roster, singled three times, was hit by a pitch and scored three times in his debut. "I can't put into words what this feels like," said Frandsen, who grew up in nearby San Jose. "Just to have the word 'Giants' across my chest is the most important thing. I wanted to be here but I never expected it. I want to show the city what I'll bring, hopefully, for the next few years." Frandsen was such a hit that his at-bats were broadcast live at San Jose Municipal Stadium, where he was the Class A Giants' co-MVP last year. After giving up two runs in the second inning, Schmidt retired 15 of the final 18 batters he faced, and none of the three runners advanced past first base. "He's been pitching like that without winning," Alou said. "We gave him some runs finally. He pitched a strong game." Bonds gave the Giants a 3-2 lead with a bases-loaded double in the third. It was the 1,356th extra-base hit of his career, tying him with Babe Ruth for third place all-time. Only Hank Aaron (1,477) and Stan Musial (1,377) have more extra-base hits. Alou has hit safely in five of his last six games and has six hits in his last 13 at-bats against the Diamondbacks. The Giants collected 16 singles, the most since July 8, 1993, when they also collected 16 singles against the Philadelphia Phillies. Rick Eymer is a contributor to MLB.com.
