He rebounded in 2004 and outperformed all but the most optimistic expectations. He already possesses a Major League fastball and curve. Cain's numbers in the California League (a good hitter's league) at the age of 19 just speak for themselves. 67. Merkin Valdez- RHP SF (11/5/81) Valdez has a big-time fastball? routinely hitting 96 mph. He's a lot like Denny Bautista in that he's kind of a tweener. I'm not sure his secondary pitches will keep him in the rotation. 2004 was the first time he faced advanced competition and he did tail off a bit as he moved up, so that is a little reason for concern. --
