先直接认栽：我对英文诗有成见, 所以除了提一下外, 不打算就这小 说名目做出任何与内容的牵拖 XD Consider Phlebas 这个名目来自 T.S. Elliot 的 "The Waste Land" 诗篇中的 "Death by Water" http://hermes.hrc.ntu.edu.tw/lctd/asp/works/109/text.htm 这部小说是 Iain M. Banks 的 Culture 系列的第一部, 讲的是 Culture 与 Idiran 大战下一名佣兵的故事 故事其实很直接, 一部 Culture 的人工智慧 ("Mind") 在逃离 Idiran 攻击时避到一颗星球内部, Idiran 派出了一名来自该星球的杀手间谍 Bora Horza Gobuchul (以下称 Horza) 企图夺取该 Mind。 其他出场的角色还有 Horza 在出发时意外加入的佣兵团，以及追捕他的 Culture 特工 Balveda 要我找出什麽「深意」我大概找不出来，因为我大部份时间都在享受其中 的快节奏动作场面，一些在谈 Culture 的乌托邦世界，及 Contact、 Special Circumstances 的部份也略嫌隔靴搔痒 Banks 自己的说法是他想要写一部吐槽「主角只手力挽狂澜公式」的小说， 因为以 Banks 在後面的附录描述的战争结果来说，整部小说的内容几乎 可以是「What was it all for?」 For fun, I guess.
