Inspired by her message, a group of people established the NTU branch of roots & shoots. Club members promote and execute their ideas project by project. Beginning with the NTU campus, they discover a problem, plan a solution, and put into practice. == Previous Projects == ◎ Improving Dormitory Recycling WHEN：Nov. - Dec. 2007 PROJECT TASKS： (a) To make the trash cans user-friendlier, sweeping the nearby floor, and placing clear signs on the lids. (b) Went to the dorm every Monday evening, collecting trash from door to door, then seperated out the recyclable items. (c) Posted up slogans and posters on the walls of restrooms and above the trash cans, respectively. RESULT： (a) The environment of the recycling area became cleaner. (b) Learn from recycling (c) Reminded students to reduce the amount of garbage reduced and recycle in accordance with the posters and slogans. ◎ Save the paper, Save the world WHEN：Nov. 2007 PROJECT TASKS： (a) Educated students and teachers on how to reduce and reuse paper (Held small “parade” in the campus to disseminate four ways to save paper.) (b) Collected paper that’s has been printed on one side already. (c) Asked the Computer and Information Networking Center (C&INC) to reduce the price for double-side printing HOW TO SAVE PAPER? (a) Choose one-side-used papers first. (b) Use recycled paper instead. (c) Try to print using both sides of paper every time. (d) Shrink the margin when you are working with documentary software. RESULT： (a) Collected around 6000 pieces of used paper. (b) In the process of making "special notebooks" from one-side-blank paper (c) Director of Information Networking Center (C&INC) agreed to reduce the price for double-side printing from NT$2 to $1.5 dollar! ◎ Action on Environmentally Friendly Tableware WHEN：Oct. - Dec. 2007 PRJECT TASKS： (a) Collected superfluous and unused tableware from teachers and students and sent them to people who needed it. (b) Encouraged people not to use disposable chopsticks, informed people of the dangers of disposable chopsticks on environment and one’s health. (c) Asked the restaurants on campus to provide discounts for people who brought their own tableware. Result： (a) Collected a total of 80 sets of tableware. (b) Most of the school restaurants are willing to provide discounts. (c) Many people support our idea and encourage us to continue. ◎ Green Campus, You Can Make a Difference!! WHEN：Mar. – Sep. 2008 PROJECT TASKS：Project is executed by 5 school clubs, including Roots & Shoots. We work with many administration offices to promote environmental conservation in NTU through the following activities: (a) Collect paper printed on only one side from C&INC and Extracurricular Activities Section (b) Post environmental protection information on restroom walls. (c) Work with school administration to forbid the use of disposable chopsticks on campus. (d) Hold two lectures on eco-awareness. (e) Hold an exhibition on the inconvenient truth in our daily life. (f) Work with school dorms and administrators to create a second-hand market for new boarders.
