The big-serving American secured the opening set 6-3 in 27 minutes before Davydenko requested assistance from a trainer when trailing 3-2 in the second set. At the next two change of ends, the Russian resorted to wearing an ice-vest in very warm conditions on Rod Laver Arena. Davydenko had a chance to clinch the second set when leading 5-4 on Roddick's serve but the American saved a break-point and went on to secure the decisive set 7-5 after 47 minutes. The No.2 seed stepped his game up a notch in the third set, racing to a 4-1 lead, before the Russian opted to concede the contest. Roddick will play the winner of tonight's quarter-final clash between Australian No.3 seed Lleyton Hewitt and Argentine No.9 seed David Nalbandian.
