This film is also noteworthy in that it was written, directed, produced, and funded by Melvin Van Peebles, an African American. the soundtrack, which was performed by Earth, Wind & Fire, who had then just released their first album. Heard on its own, the soundtrack, unlike Superfly or Shaft, is not a significant musical achievement. even in the case of Superfly, one of the better blaxploitation films of the time, where Curtis Mayfield's music was better than the film.
