Bailey will wear No. 55 and will be making his major league debut when he joins the Red Sox for Friday night’s game in Detroit. Bailey, 28, is batting .250 with nine homers and 40 RBI in 74 games with Pawtucket this season. The right-handed batter is tied for the team lead in runs (42) and is second on the club in homers, RBI, and walks (40). Bailey is in his fourth season with the Red Sox organization. He split the 2004 and 2005 seasons between Double-A Portland and Pawtucket and spent all of 2006 with Pawtucket, batting .275 with 22 homers and 82 RBI. Bailey, who is in his 11th pro season, has also played in the Florida and Montreal organizations. To make room for Bailey on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Matt Clement was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. Clement has been on the disabled list all season as he continues to rehab from right shoulder surgery in September 2006. Ellsbury, who had been recalled from Pawtucket to make his major debut on June 30, hit .375 with one RBI in six games with Boston. Also Friday, Ellsbury was selected to play for the U.S. Team in the 2007 All-Star Futures Game on Sunday in San Francisco.
