That's about where the comparison ends, though. AJ never did a great job harnessing his height to get a good downward plane on his pitches, being home prone even since his college days but Aaron's ability to keep the ball down is one of his biggest assets as a pitcher. When he's right, Griffin gets good sink and solid run on his fastball and does a got job spotting it at the bottom of the zone. AJ is a fastball-curveball type of pitcher while Aaron is really a sinker-slider guy, and Aaron's slider has actually flashed plus occasionally with sharp late break. Griffin also throws a changeup, although it is not nearly the caliber of his brother's plus offering at this point. The Rays, as is their organizational strategy, will begin working with him on is changeup to try to change that as soon as possible. 和哥哥（A.J. That makes it very tough for hitters, especially right-handed ones, to keep track of the ball, but it also causes his arm slots to go on the fritz at times. It's impressive how Griffin has adjusted enough to his motion that he doesn't have too much of an issue throwing strikes, but sometimes it causes him to get under the ball, which in turn makes him leave his sinker up and hang his slider. He has to find a way to rectify that with alacrity because you can't leave the ball up when you're throwing 88 MPH and expect to be successful. Look for the Rays to try to tone down his delivery to try to prevent his release angle from slipping, especially because they're planning to use him as a starting pitcher to begin his professional career. It's not hard to picture him as an extremely good right-handed specialist, but he shows enough stuff to start down the line and the Rays will keep him in that role as long as they can. Lockwood may not be tall, but he has great strength complemented by excellent bat speed, giving him big-time power that he does a great job bringing out in games. And when we're talking about power, we don't mean 15 home runs a season but more like 25 or 30. The downside to Lockwood on offense, though, is his overaggressiveness, both in terms of when he swings and his swings themselves. Lockwood needs major improvement to his plate discipline and pitch recognition as he gets caught popping up well-located fastballs and flailing at breaking pitches far too often. In addition, Lockwood gets in trouble when he sells out for power, losing his bat speed and making the strikeouts pour in even more. The crazy thing, though, was how he got to Weatherford. Lockwood was a freshman at Oklahoma and showed quite a bit of promise, tying for second in the Big 12 with 11 home runs. But after the season, Lockwood ended up at Weatherford, not because of any disciplinary issue, not because the Sooners were taking away his playing time, but simply because he had his heart set on being a full-time catcher. The notion isn't completely nonsensical because Lockwood does have tools behind the plate, moving well and possessing good arm strength. The issue, though, is that he doesn't have great hands, giving him issues receiving and making transfers on stolen base attempts. Maybe that's something that can be smoothed out, but given how much work he will need on offense, fighting a battle on both sides of the ball may just be too much. The Rays indicated as much when they selected Lockwood as a left fielder. His experience as a catcher belies the fact that he's a barely below-average overall runner, and combining that with his arm could make him a fine defender in left field and a serviceable one in right. Catching is obviously higher up the defensive spectrum than left field but it doesn't matter as much because Lockwood has the power to profile anywhere. Everything is going to depend on how well Lockwood can develop at the plate once he signs. Blair shows just solid bat speed with little power at the plate and he's never going to be considered much of an offensive threat. Yet despite that, pitchers have an awfully hard time getting him out. Blair has a smaller strike zone and knows it well, and you'll rarely find him chasing pitches ever. He fouls off the pitcher's pitches and doesn't swing at the nasty breaking balls, leading to long counts and at-bats that just never seem to end. His plate discipline and pitch recognition help him draw walks even though pitchers do everything they can to throw him strikes, and that isn't all. Blair's swing may not stand out much, but he's good at using his patience to find pitches to hit, something that is going to serve him well even as pitchers throw him more and more strikes as he moves up the professional ranks. He does strike out a little too much despite a nice ability to make contact as a product of working so many deep counts and Blair may end up as a player who does not hit for much average. But we know in baseball these days that batting average is far from everything. Blair has a chance to be a player that hits only .250 but manages a solid on-base percentage and some surprising power to the gaps to put his OPS around league average or not far below. Blair certainly isn't your ideal hitter, but he gets the job done and what else can you ask for? Defensively, Blair has solid range at shortstop and arm strength that might be a little sub-par, but he has worked hard to perfect his actions and become a good defender. And Blair ties his game together with excellent character, staying unfazed whenever he hits a rough patch and showing the leadership to help the team overcome whatever struggles they may have. Blair's all-around game probably fits better as a utility player than a starter, but he's the type of player every team needs to fill out their roster. He's a max-effort player who makes every contribution he can to help the team win both on the field and in the clubhouse.
