Rangers' Torrealba assaults umpire during winter ball game

Catcher Yorvit Torrealba is likely to receive a heavy penalty after slapping
an umpire during a Venezuelan winter league game with Caracas on Friday night.
After swinging at a pitch in the dirt for a strikeout, Torrealba began
arguing with plate umpire Dario Rivero Jr., who ejected him. Torrealba
responded with an open-hand slap to Rivero’s mask, jarring him.
Rivero is a Venezuelan umpire. The crew included one minor league umpire:
Travis Carlson, who worked in the Double-A Southern League this past season.
Winter league penalties do not carry over to the majors.
