Texas to put Harrison on disabled list Lefty feeling numbness in hand; Hunter to start Sunday By Todd Wills / Special to MLB.com 06/27/09 7:45 PM ET ARLINGTON -- Left-hander Matt Harrison will go on the disabled list on Sunday, but he won't know for another week what is causing periodic numbness in his hand after pitching. Officially, Harrison is being listed as having biceps inflammation in his left arm. He last started on Tuesday at Arizona, allowing seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. Right-hander Tommy Hunter will start in Harrison's place Sunday night against San Diego. Hunter already has made a spot start this season, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings against Oakland on May 29. Harrison, who had an MRI on Friday that showed no structural damage, said he will visit a neurologist a week from Monday to rule out nerve damage after experiencing numbness in his left hand. "We're not going to mess with day to day," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "We're going to get him on the DL and do what we have to do to get it all moved out of there." Harrison said the numbness didn't bother him when pitching Tuesday, but rather the next day. He said the doctor that team physician Keith Meister wants him to see is out of town, which is delaying his visit to next Monday. "It's just frustrating," Harrison said. "I don't feel like myself." Harrison has already spent time on the DL once this season, going on May 29 with left shoulder inflammation. He was pitching his best baseball in May, throwing back-to-back complete games on May 8 and May 14. He allowed 12 runs in 10 innings in his next two starts against Detroit and New York before going on the DL. Harrison said Saturday that he didn't rush back from the injury, feeling 100 percent when he was activated June 17. He pitched five innings in a start against Houston, allowing three runs. Harrison said his mechanics got out of whack against Arizona, and he thinks that is what is causing his current arm problems. "My arm slot has been bad," Harrison said. "It's a little bit of fatigue I've been feeling all the time when I'm not throwing." Washington didn't say whether Hunter is auditioning for a spot in the five-man rotation. The Rangers are off on Thursday, so they could skip Hunter. "Right now, it's a spot," Washington said. "We don't know if it will be more." Todd Wills is a contributor to MLB.com.
