ARLINGTON -- Art Howe has agreed to join the Rangers as new manager Ron Washington's bench coach. This will be his second tour of duty with the Rangers. He was on Bobby Valentine's staff in 1985-88 as their hitting coach. Howe accepted a job on Oct. 16 with the Phillies as their third-base coach, but was given permission to talk to the Rangers when Washington was hired. Howe, who turns 60 next month, played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Pirates, Astros and Cardinals. Washington and Howe also met with Don Wakamatsu on Tuesday to talk about a job on the Rangers staff as the third-base coach. No resolution was reached.
