Russell was the 2006 International League Manager of the Year for Scranton-Wilkes Barre, the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A farm team. The Rangers have received permission to interview Oakland Athletics third-base coach Ron Washington and will do so on Tuesday. Russell is scheduled to interview on Thursday. The Rangers also plan to interview dugout coach Don Wakamatsu, Mets third-base coach Manny Acta and Nippon Ham Fighters manager Trey Hillman. Acta and Hillman will not be interviewed until after their teams are done in the playoffs. The Mets are in the middle of the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Nippon Ham Fighters open the Japan Series on Oct. 21 against the Chunichi Dragons. Wakamatsu, who spent the past four years as bench coach under Showalter, will be the last manager interviewed. Showalter was dismissed at the end of the season. General manager Jon Daniels has not ruled out other candidates. Russell spent 2003-2005 as the Pittsburgh Pirates' third-base coach and catching instructor and also had eight seasons of managerial experience in the Minnesota Twins organization. He led Edmonton to the Pacific Coast League title in 2002 and New Britain to the 1998 Eastern League Championship.
