Can't rule out trade of first-round pick for Pistons

As the Pistons hold final predraft workouts for prospects this week at their
practice facility, there's one thing to remember -- they still might trade
their first-round draft pick.

That's not exactly major news, as president of basketball operations Joe
Dumars responded in the affirmative after the season when asked whether he
would be open to trading the No. 15 pick of the first round. The draft is
Thursday night in New York.

The reasoning is simple -- why draft a player who you think might be able to
help you when you can take the savings from a first-round selection's
guaranteed money and apply it to helping pay for an established veteran
acquired in free agency or via trade?

Last year's 15th selection, Suns center Robin Lopez, made $1.6 million last
season.

Trade out of the first round and that's about $1.6 million you can apply to
the roughly $20 million of cap space the team already has. That little extra
could make all the difference when it comes to acquiring talent when free
agency starts July 1.
交易掉首轮的选秀权，省下的除了帐面上的1.6M外，活塞的薪资空间将达到约20M。
而这看似只多那麽一点点的薪资空间，有可能在7/1即将开跑的自由球员市场局势改变。
The one snag is that other teams are looking to trade out of the first round
as well -- the economy has franchises looking to save money wherever possible.
其他球队当然也有人这麽想，也有人为了多省些钱而打算兜售首轮选秀权。
