Speculation centers on the Hornets, who currently have around $76 million in salary commitments for next season. The salary cap is expected to drop to around $57 million next season because of the economy, but more important, the luxury tax threshold is expected to fall to $68 million, which kicks in a penalty for every dollar over the threshold. West will make $9 million next season and has three seasons left on his contract.
