Billed as a young Rasheed Wallace, Aldridge showed great offensive proficiency with his mid-range jumper, going 11 of 19 to score 27 points to go with four rebounds when Portland won at The Palace early in the season, then coming back with 26 and six on 11 of 21 shooting when the Trail Blazers won the rematch on a night Wallace was out of the lineup with a bad foot. Billups had 20 points in the first half of their January meeting in Denver before Allen Iverson led a Pistons second-half comeback. Denver played without Carmelo Anthony in both games, but the Pistons were also shorthanded, winning at Denver without Rip Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace and at The Palace without Iverson. The Pistons played one of the guttiest games of the season, forcing the Rockets into double overtime on a night Antonio McDyess grabbed 20 rebounds in 51 minutes, but Yao overwhelmed them with 31 points and 15 boards. Until then, Harris had been dominant against the Pistons, consistently breaking down their defense with dribble penetration and off of pick-and-roll action. Through his first three games, in which New Jersey won twice, Harris had averaged 25.3 points and 7.3 assists. So his 14-point, eight-rebound night against the Pistons in December, when the 76ers came from 15 points back to win at The Palace, wasn’t particularly eye-opening. But back at his natural small forward position, Igoudala was terrific in two late-season games with the Pistons, averaging 29 points and eight rebounds as the teams split. And one big reason for that is they are one of the very few teams in the league who can get away with not doubling the freakishly strong and athletic 7-footer.
