Chauncey Billups heard it, and understood the logic. The idea: Send the Detroit Pistons as the U.S. representative to international basketball competitions. "It's actually a great compliment," Billups said. Prince also was asked if he'd be interested last year but was unavailable. USA Basketball came back to him this year, seeing a need for his versatility and winning background. "I'm just so glad and so lucky that opportunity presented itself again this time around," Prince said. "What I bring to the team obviously is some defense and some rebounding, and also capable of hitting some outside shots. "With this type of squad we have, obviously I don't have to score a lot or do anything in that type of role." Colangelo remembered also meeting with Ben Wallace, but the two mutually agreed his game wasn't suited for international play. But he wouldn't give up on Prince, even sending an intermediary to make sure if he asked again, he would get a yes.
