That becomes a big part of that player and his future with your team. If he handles it the right way, if he can deal with it, then you know you’ve got something long term to hold on to. If it becomes a major problem, then you look at it and see how it plays out. Maxiell only knows one speed. That’s the great thing about him. You don’t have to have worry about Maxiell coming in and dogging it or loafing it. That’s just not even in him to do that. Of course he wants to play. Of course he’d love to be on the floor. But it won’t affect the way he comes out and puts his work in. Has he come a little faster than you anticipated? You probably believe that’s something of an aberration and it will drift back toward the middle. But if the East stays jammed up as the trade deadline nears, do you believe that it will embolden general managers to make moves on the belief that their teams are one player away from breaking the logjam? The initial offer was to take one or two of our core guys to get him from Portland and I walked away from the deal. Only when he got traded to Atlanta did I go back to Atlanta and say, ‘I’ve got draft picks and guys with expiring contracts,’ and they were looking for that. I said all along Rasheed was a great fit with our guys, not in place of. For me to give up something in place of, not with our guys, you’d better be talking about one hell of a player in our league. You look at the core guys and say, ‘Can I add something to these guys?’ That’s my outlook on it and I probably won’t get too far away from that. What usually happens when you have standings this tight is people try to break away from the pack and the best way to do that is to make a trade. The last three champions – us, San Antonio and Miami. We traded for Rasheed during the season, San Antonio traded for Nazr during the season, and even though Miami didn’t make a major move during the season, they had just made dramatic changes to bring in veteran guys in the offseason. The last three champions made significant moves. People see that, they know. So that’s why I expect to see some kind of moves made.
