Q . Can you speak another language?
A . Unfortunately not. I wish I could.
Q . Do you pick anything up language-wise on all the scouting trips you do
overseas?
A . I should, but I don't. We Americans have the easy out, because everybody
can speak English these days. So you get away with not learning their language.
It's sad but true. The other problem is, every trip I go on I don't have to do
myself. I usually meet up with Tony Ronzone (Pistons director of basketball
operations), and he takes care of everything.
Tony Ronzone(活塞翻译员),然後他就会搞定了。
Q . But you have been to some pretty interesting places to see players
A . Definitely. We've made these tips into Serbia or Slovakia, the kind where
you come over a mountain road and you just see the whole village below you in
the valley. In the winter, no less. Very pretty.
Q . Your first car?
╔══╗
A . This is going to show how old I am.
I had a 1963 Chevrolet Biscayne.
║/,\║
Three-speed on the column.

Chevrolet Biscayne。
Q . Was it nice or a heap?
A . Oh, it was a bad car. I bought it from a friend of my father's. He had it,
and I used to cut grass for him. When I was in high school, he said he'd sell
it to me real cheap for cutting his grass. So I got it for $125.
Q . How long did you have it for?
A . I drove it from my sophomore through senior years in high school. It was
amazing the car lasted that long. A real shock.
Q . So it sounds like you had the traditional heap in high school ...
A . Of course. Wouldn't have it any other way.
A:当然...
Q . You're a pretty mild-mannered guy. Were you more intense back when you were
coaching in college?
A . I was told early on that I would never make it as a coach, because I was
too nice of a guy. And I just told those people that if you think that, that
means you don't know me too well.
Q . Ooh. That sounds kind of Godfatherish
A . Well, not really. I'm not really mean. But I can be tough when I need to
be, like all coaches.
