: ※ 引述《kart (=\)》之铭言:
: : O'neal is the most dominant player in the game, that
: : s true.
: : however, I think Penny helps O'neal to understand the game better and
: : makes O'neal evolve into a team player.
: : Of course Penny likes to play with O'neal as he always said, but the thing
: : here is NOT like what O'neal said. Don't forget the year after O'neal left
: : Orlando, Penny helped an almost unknown center, "Saekley" to become a
: : 18,10 player! I remember some reporters even ranked him as the 6th best center
: : just behind the great 4 and mourning!
: : But at the same time, O'neal didn't help kobe or Jones jump into next level!
: : I think O'neal never appreciates his teammates. And to put Penny in this case,
: : it really sux!
Well, to say he was almost unknown might be a bit inadequate.
For that, I apologize.
However, you can't deny after two of very unsuccessful seasons
in GS, nobody paid attention to him. (I was in bay area that time)
And he indeed became a much improved player after he was traded to
Orlando. And his career high was in Orlando, not Miami either.
Not to mention his shooting percentage increased as well as points
per game (from around 12 to 17 or 18)
Penny is even now still one of the best player to play with centers.
You can just see that by looking at his pass to center. It might look
easy, but not many people, including some well known PG nowadays
can't do that. (This part was actually a comment on TV in the playoffs)
And everybody knows why Penny wasn't better after O'neal left.
That's because of his unfortunate injuries.
And another reason I think to say the other way around is more
appropriate is that Penny was the man in the playuoffs, not O'neal.
It was not like today's Kobe and O'neal.
Bulls and Rockets somehow know how to stop O'neal, but they can't
stop Penny at that time. And I still remembered the last game of
Bulls swept of Magic, one TV broadcaster said you can blame
everyone, including O'neal of Magic but not Penny.
Penny helped O'neal grow up as what he is now.
And I never doubt O'neal is the most dominant player in the league.
However, to say O'neal helps Penny more than Penny helps O'neal?
I don't buy that. Blame me if I didn't watch those magic games before.
However, I was watching almost every game at that time.
