Going into next season, New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard Eric Gordon could
have to adjust coming off the bench instead of starting for the first time in
his career.

With swingman Tyreke Evans emerging as a solid starter in the backcourt after
Gordon missed the final 14 games because of a left knee injury, Pelicans
coach Monty Williams said he has thoughts about Evans in a starting role, but
it will be something under discussion throughout the offseason before a final
decision is made.

Gordon, though, is gearing toward returning as a starter. When asked if he
would feel comfortable assuming the team's sixth man role he said in an email
response Sunday,''I won't get into that because I thought they brought me
here to lead and set the tone for the team.

"I've got a lot to prove in my career and I'm still young (25).So the more
durable I am will really show what I'm capable of,'' said Gordon, who is the
highest paid player on the Pelicans' roster with two years remaining at $30.4
million.

Despite requiring arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last month, Gordon
started all 64 games at shooting guard and averaged 15.4 points.

But in 22 starts, which included the final 14 games at shooting guard, Evans
averaged 19.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists.In an April 14 game
against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Evans scored a career-high 41 points to
lead the Pelicans to a 101-89 upset victory at the Smoothie King Center.

''It's going to take some conversations with me and the staff to try and
figure out what's best for the team,'' Williams said during his season-ending

Pelicans general manager Dell Demps said the possibility of making Gordon the
sixth man and starting Evans is something they haven't discussed yet, but
they are going to look at everything to make the team better after finishing
34-48 and missing the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

Regardless what happens, intense competition is likely to occur at the
shooting guard spot when training camp opens this fall. Gordon says he will
be ready.

Gordon said his rehabilitation work is going well since undergoing
arthroscopic surgery for a clean-out procedure last month.It's the third
consecutive year Gordon has had a surgical procedure of some sort. At the end
of 2012-13 season, Gordon required surgery on his left ankle to remove
particles of scar tissue to alleviate pain.

Gordon also missed the first 29 games of the 2012-13 season because of a
patella tendon disorder and bone bruise in his right knee. When he returned,
Gordon was limited by team doctors. He didn't average more than 30 minutes a
game and didn't participate in back-to-back contests.
EG伤痛史
During his first season with the team in 2011-12 , Gordon missed all but nine
games after undergoing surgery to remove loose cartilage from his right knee
''This process is very different (from last year), it took me almost three
months to get back on the court,'' Gordon said. ''Now I plan to do basketball
activities in two-three weeks.''

Gordon injured his left knee in a March 21 game against the Atlanta Hawks at
Philips Arena. The Pelicans initially listed Gordon's left knee injury as a
tendinitis flare-up but after missing eight consecutive games, he headed to
Los Angeles to get his knee checked by his doctor, who recommended surgery.
''I was very surprised, after I had the MRI,'' Gordon said.''Doc said a small
clean out will help for the long run because it was painful. But it was a
very minor surgery.''
「在照过MRI後，我那时候很惊讶，医生说清理一下会对长期有帮助，因为那真的很痛，但
就只是个小手术」EG说
