The New Orleans Hornets can forget about dropping significantly further under the NBA Luxury Tax and having serious spending money on the free agency period which begins Thursday. Veteran Peja Stojakovic is staying put in New Orleans. The 6'10, 229 pound Stojakovic will not opt out of his contract with the Hornets for the upcoming season. Stojakovic is due to make $15.336 million in 2010-2011. That is simply too much for the veteran forward to consider opting out. Stojakovic enters his 13th season this fall. The Greek team Panathinaikos had expressed some interest in signing Stojakovic but Peja's agent says it will not happen. David Bauman told Chris Tomasson of Fanhouse.com that his client is happy in New Orleans and will not opt out of the final year of his deal, as had been rumored. The 33-year old Stojakovic has been plagued by injuries in his four seasons with the Hornets. He missed 69 games in the 2006-2007 season, 21 games in the 2008-2009 season and 20 games in the 2009-2010 season with an assortment of injuries related to a back and groin problem. His productivity has declined annually, another sign of aging. He averaged 17.8 points in 2006-2007, 16.4 points in 2007-2008, 13.3 points in 2008-2009 and 12.6 points in the 2009-2010 season.
