Bristow will assume the position left by the impending retirement of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Bob Bass. "I'm thrilled about the opportunity that (Hornets Owner) George Shinn has given me to be able to help the Hornets organization reach their goal of putting the best team possible on the floor every night," said Bristow. "I look forward to working with Coach (Byron) Scott and Mr. Shinn and I know that together we'll do everything possible to make that happen." Bristow will handle the team's day-to-day basketball operations and oversee player personnel decisions, the coordination of the schedules for the entire college scouting staff and the compilation of data in preparation for the NBA Draft. "I have worked with Allan for seven NBA seasons and I'm very familiar with the basketball expertise that he possesses," said Shinn. "He has served in many different capacities in our league from coach to general manager and I'm proud to say that we're promoting not just a sharp basketball mind, but a quality person as well." Bristow spent six years with the Hornets (1990-1996), including five as head coach and one as vice president of basketball operations, before re-joining the organization as assistant general manager prior to the 2003-04 season. He finished his tenure as Hornets head coach with a 207-203 (.505) record. At the time, his 207 victories represented the most by any coach in franchise history, a mark that would stand until 2003 (he now ranks second all-time). His 410 games coached still stands as a team record. He led the team to the playoffs twice in his five seasons as head coach, finished with a .500 or better record four times and produced two 50-win seasons. Before his appointment as head coach, Bristow spent the 1990-91 season (and two NBA Drafts) as the Hornets' vice president of basketball operations. While in that role, he showed his keen eye for talent in the free-agent signing of Johnny Newman and the drafting of Kendall Gill and Larry Johnson. Bristow remained a major influence in the Hornets' subsequent drafts, during which they acquired players such as Alonzo Mourning and Scott Burrell. After leaving the Hornet sidelines in 1996, Bristow joined the Denver Nuggets as vice president of basketball operations from 1997-1998. Before joining the Hornets in 1990, Bristow spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets under Head Coach Doug Moe. He was also an assistant coach at San Antonio under then-head coach Bass during the 1983-84 season before moving to Denver in 1984. --
