On Monday night, Van Gundy said he hasn't heard about any potential moves from Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith. Given that the trade deadline is set for 3 p.m. EST Thursday,Van Gundy said he doesn't expect the Magic will make a move. "We're getting awful late, and I haven't heard anything, so I would be surprised, actually," Van Gundy said after the Magic completed practice at Amway Center. "We're at the end of the day on Feb. 21st, and Otis is very good about talking to me about things that are going on, and I haven't heard anything. So I'd be surprised, but you never know what comes up at the last minute." The Magic's most glaring need is in the frontcourt, where power forwards Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson have backed-up center Dwight Howard since the team traded away Marcin Gortat in mid-December. But the Magic may wait until after the deadline, when players on bad teams receive buyouts. One possibility could be 6-foot-11 Troy Murphy, who currently is on the New Jersey Nets' roster. Smith is familiar with Murphy from the early 2000s, when Murphy was a young player with the Golden State Warriors and Smith was in the Warriors' front office.
