Orlando Magic exploring their options
Brandon Bass was working out in his high school gym, when an observer pointed
out a flaw in his game.

"He told my best friend, 'Man, Brandon can't shoot. I don't think he's going
to do good at LSU cause he can't shoot,'" Bass recalled. "I said, 'I'll show

The Magic beat the Chicago Bulls Monday night, 101-98, in a sloppy
performance that included 18 turnovers 12 in the first half and a plethora of

Derrick Rose sat out with an ankle sprain.

care of the ball, we didn't do a very good job at either one of them," Van
Gundy said. "Hopefully our players aren't pleased either. At some point we've

In his stead, the Magic will start Bass, Ryan Anderson or Matt Barnes. That
jumper is one way in which Bass has distinguished himself, but all three have
impressed their teammates and coaches, leaving Van Gundy with a difficult
decision.

Barnes played mostly small forward Monday night, scored 10 points and notched

Van Gundy called the team's performance "awful," but mentioned Anderson's
play as one of the bright spots.

The 21-year-old who came to the Magic as part of the trade that brought Vince
Carter, started Monday night's game. But after drawing two quick fouls within
the first two minutes, he sat as Bass entered the game.

Anderson played just under 23 minutes while Bass played almost 19 minutes and
fouled out with 4:18 left in the fourth quarter.

The contrast between Bass's style and Anderson's was apparent as soon as Bass
left the game with his sixth foul. Anderson immediately sunk a three-pointer.

"Offensively he has a real good idea of how to play and how to stretch the
floor," Van Gundy said. "Where he needs to continue to improve is the
defensive end. That's what we're looking at more than anything with him."

And while Van Gundy wasn't happy with anybody's defense, Anderson feels a lot
more comfortable in the system.

"I'm really learning to clog up the paint more," Anderson said. "? I feel
like I'm doing that better. I think it's just knowing it quicker. Knowing 100
percent where to be. I 'm still relying on my teammates."

The game ended when Anderson stole the ball and dribbled away the final
seconds.

Who wins the spot could come down to playing style. Anderson and Barnes play
the power forward position in a similar style to that which Lewis provides
for Orlando. Bass knows his brand of power forward changes the offense. He's
a shooter, just a different kind. Van Gundy said he might be the best
mid-range shooter on the team.

He also said Bass will have a major role in the rotation, but whether or not
he'll start isn't certain ? especially once Lewis returns to the lineup.

"I want to have a significant role on the team," Bass said. "I can help this
team a lot. Whether I start or don't start, it's going to be what's best for
the team. I admire coach a lot. He's a great coach. Whatever decision he'll
make will be what's best for the team."
“我想在球队里扮演重要角色。”Bass说“我能帮助球队很多，不管我是不是先发，那都
要取决於对球队最好的方式，我敬佩我们的教练，他很棒，他做的决定对球队而言会是最
