标题[哨兵报]No trades for 'suspect characters,' Magic say
时间Fri Dec 29 04:46:03 2006
http://0rz.tw/372iW)

No trades for 'suspect characters,' Magic say

Magic General Manager
Otis Smith said he has essentially made it known
throughout the league that
he has no interest in acquiring troubled players
or players with suspect character.
"I think I've pretty much gotten that out there," Smith said.
Smith was not interested in
Allen Iverson, and he said the Sacramento Kings
-- who are apparently looking to trade controversial F
Ron Artest -- did not
contact the Magic.
Smith said he would not have had any interest in dealing F
Hedo Turkoglu for
Artest. Their salaries come close to matching. Turkoglu played his first
three NBA seasons with Kings.
The Kings, according to the Los Angeles Times, are trying to trade Artest to
the L.A. Clippers for former Magic F Corey Maggette.
Opponents going off
Although the Los Angeles Lakers have had a better-than-expected start, they
have been victimized more than normal this season by huge games from
individual players. Dwyane Wade (40 points), Gilbert Arenas (60 points),
Michael Redd (45 points), Tayshaun Prince (31 points), Ray Allen (32) all
have beaten them this season with considerably better-than-average games.
Even in games the Lakers won, Yao Ming (35 points), Joe Johnson (30 points),
and Leandro Barbosa (30 points) have torched them.
"Guys who aren't first-rate players have been getting 30 against us, and
leading players are getting 40,'' said Lakers Coach Phil Jackson before
Wednesday's game. "Blame it on the Grinches.''
Missing Odom
The Lakers have been without Lamar Odom, their second-leading scorer and top
rebounder since Dec. 12 (sprained right knee), and until he returns, they
admittedly don't know what they have this season with so many young players.
"He'll make a huge difference when he returns,'' said Kobe Bryant. "We'll
have two guys who can create, two guys who know how to format the offense.
That changes a lot.''
Phil's special chair
No, Phil Jackson didn't grow a few more inches since the last time he was
here. Jackson, the Lakers coach with six NBA titles to his credit, was
sitting about eight inches higher than anyone else on the Lakers sideline,
making him look like a king. It's a special orthopedic chair that he travels
with, designed to ease stress on his body after his latest hip replacement
surgery.
Etc.
Magic Coach
Brian Hill said that the Magic would not have traded
Steve
Francis last season unless F
Trevor Ariza was included in the deal. "That had
to be part of the trade," Hill said. "
We weren't making the deal unless he
was in it. There was nobody else we wanted." . . . The NBA today will release
the second return of results from fan balloting for the Feb. 18 NBA All-Star
Game. In the first results, Magic C Dwight Howard was second among Eastern
Conference centers behind Miami Heat C Shaquille O'Neal. Jameer Nelson and
Turkoglu are also on the ballot, but the NBA releases just the top 10 at each
position in each conference. . . . The Magic's next game is Friday against
the Wizards in Washington.
