Not all night. No relief was needed as Chen pitched a two-hitter for the Royals to beat the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Rays, 7-0, on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium. It was the first shutout of Chen's 13-year career. And it was culmination of a storybook season for the left-hander. Chen began the season in the Minors, was called up to pitch in the Kansas City bullpen, then got a chance to start when Gil Meche was hurting. Just two years removed from Tommy John surgery, Chen -- not Zack Greinke -- was leading the Royals with a 12-7 record. ... For inspiration and guidance, Chen and catcher Pena didn't study a videotape of Braden's perfect game, but viewed a seven-inning gem against the Rays by Baltimore left-hander Brian Matusz.
