Zaun, Baltimore's former backup catcher, was selected via waiver claim by Tampa Bay and then dealt with cash considerations for Hughes. Hughes, who will be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk, was batting .313 with a .361 on-base percentage and a .533 slugging mark for Triple-A Durham. Hughes, a former eighth-round Draft pick, started the season at Double-A Montgomery, where he batted 2.52 with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs in 58 games. The Orioles have Aubrey Huff at first base, but he'll be eligible for free agency after the season. Baltimore also has former first-round Draft selections Michael Aubrey and Brandon Snyder at first base for Norfolk. Snyder is regarded as an up-and-coming prospect and can be considered the team's first baseman of the future. Hughes, 25 years old, played in the Arizona Fall League last year and was named to the league's Top Prospects team. Hughes led the league in extra-base hits (20) and was tied for the top batting average (.394). He also finished in the top five in doubles (12), hits (43) and slugging percentage (.697). --
