Gillespie hails 'star' Doherty Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie has placed controversial Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty in an elite group of modern "rock 'n' roll stars". Gillespie reckons the only British singers who can currently claim to be rock 'n' roll icons are himself, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher, former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown and ex Libertine Doherty. Doherty has increasingly found himself at the centre of press attention in recent years following his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss and his well documented drug addiction. But Gillespie, who has also been linked with Moss in the past, reckons Doherty craves the attention and insists he is a "great songwriter". He said: "He's obviously into his romantic poets and he likes to get intoxicated heavily, but he is a great songwriter and he is a great musician. "He loves the press, the notoriety and the fame. I get that impression anyway. But what other rock 'n' roll star has what we've got? He's the only one apart from me, Liam Gallagher and Ian Brown. We're the only ones who have it."
