Nuggets add two guards By Rocky Mountain News April 13, 2007 The Nuggets announced today the signing of guards Anthony Carter and Von Wafer for the remainder of the season. "Anthony is a solid, veteran point guard who gives us depth at the position as we head into the postseason," Mark Warkentien, vice president of basketball operations, said in a statement. "Von is a very talented young player who had a tremendous season in the D-League. We feel he has a bright future in the NBA." The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Carter attended Nuggets training camp last fall before being waived Oct. 25. He averaged 4.0 points and 1.8 assists in four preseason games. He spent the rest of the season with Legea Scafati Basket in Italy. In seven NBA seasons with Miami, San Antonio and Minnesota, he has averaged 4.7 points, 3.7 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. Wafer, 6-5, 210, ranked second in the NBA Developmental League in scoring (21.0) and three-point field goal percentage (.453) this past season with the Colorado 14ers. Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 39th overall pick in 2005, Wafer spent the 2005-06 season with the Lakers and averaged 1.3 points in 16 games. He signed a 10-day contract this past February with the Los Angeles Clippers but played only one minute.
