Cologne appoint Daum as coach until 2010

BERLIN, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Cologne have appointed Christoph Daum, who has not
worked in Germany since a drugs scandal in 2000, as their new coach.
The German second division club said on their website on Sunday that Daum had
signed until the end of June 2010.
'We hope that with this decision we have found the best solution for FC
Cologne and for the team,' team manager Michael Meier said.
The 53-year-old began his coaching career at Cologne in 1986. In 2000, a
positive test for cocaine use prevented him from taking up his appointment as
the German national team coach.
He was offered the Cologne post earlier this month after the club sacked
Hanspeter Latour, but he initially turned it down as he needed time to
recover from a throat operation.
Daum is expected to take up his duties in the week following the game at
Greuther Fuerth on Nov. 26.
