NBA Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans of Sacramento, Milwaukee’s Brandon
Jennings and Golden State’s Stephen Curry were unanimous selections to
the league’s All-Rookie Team.
Evans was named the league’s top rookie on Thursday, while Curry and
Jennings finished second and third, respectively, in the balloting.
The 20-year-old Evans averaged 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds
in starting each of the 72 games in which he appeared. Curry averaged
17.5 points, 5.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 80 games, while Jennings
finished the 2009-10 campaign averaging 15.5 points, 5.7 assists and
3.4 rebounds in all 82 games.
Joining the trio on the First Team were Darren Collison of New Orleans
and Taj Gibson of Chicago. Collison saw extended playing time in the
wake of Chris Paul’s injuries during the season and ranked sixth among
rookies in scoring with 12.4 points. Gibson led all rookies in rebounding
at 7.5 per game.
The Second-Team squad consisted of Marcus Thornton of New Orleans,
DeJuan Blair of San Antonio, James Harden of Oklahoma City, Jonny Flynn
of Minnesota and Detroit’s Jonas Jerebko.
Voting was conducted among the NBA’s 30 head coaches, who were asked
to select five players for the first team and five players for the
second team, regardless of position. The coaches were not permitted
to vote for players on their own team.
