标题[外电] The Joel Peralta non-tender explained

关於 Peralta 为什麽没有获得续约的疑问目前似乎有眉目了。
根据 Adam Kilgore 所听到的解释，球团提供给 Peralta 一年的保障合约避免薪资仲裁
，不过 Peralta 想要两年。鉴於他今年已经年满34岁，给他两年的合约似乎有些冒险，
加上他今年又投出了生涯最佳的成绩(今年成绩：ERA 2.02，WHIP 0.796，ERA+ 201。而
生涯平均则是 ERA 4.22，WHIP 1.219，ERA+ 106)，如果最後走上仲裁法庭想必 Peralta
会要求高薪，到时候球团输掉仲裁的可能性应该是蛮高的。於是最终球团决定让 Peralta
成为自由球员。
Kilgore 又在文章中举出 Mike MacDougal 当作例子。09年球季 MacDougal 被国民队从
白袜队捡来，并且缴出了相当不错的成绩。这一年 MacDougal 吃下了50局，ERA 3.60，
ERA+ 119。球季结束後球团也向 MacDougal 提供了年薪2M的一年合约，不过遭到拒绝。
後来 MacDougal 就离开国民改投靠马林鱼队，不过却在春训时就遭到释出。
(之後 MacDougal 又辗转到了红雀队，不过成绩不太理想，今年他的 ERA 高达 7.23。)

感想：基本上我无法同意拿 Peralta 来和 MacDougal 作比较，光是这两个人的控球就
差多了，简直是天壤之别。 我并不清楚如果仲裁的话 Peralta 究竟能够拿到多
高的薪水，但我想应该也不至於高得太离谱。一个中继投手能够拿到多少？何况
Peralta 今年签的还是小联盟约，想在薪资仲裁时漫天喊价实在不太可能。
Anyway，对於 Peralta 的离开只想说好聚好散， 也感谢他今年在牛棚的贡献。
无论这项决策是对是错，都祝福他能够拿到他所想要的合约并且明年能有个不错
的球季，以上。

This morning, I heard the explanation for why the Nationals non-tendered Joel
Peralta, an initially surprising decision based on his 2.02 ERA, 49
strikeouts and 0.796 WHIP in 49 rubber-armed innings last season.
The Nationals offered Peralta a one-year, guaranteed contract in an effort to
avoid arbitration. Peralta, 34, tried to parlay his excellent season into a
two-year deal from the club. That's a lot of risk for a 34-year-old middle
reliever who just had, by far, his best season. The Nationals decided they
couldn't take that risk, or the chance of going into arbitration with him, so
they non-tendered him.
Honestly, I can't blame the Nationals and I think Peralta will regret his
decision. Look at what happened to Mike MacDougal last year; he could have
taken a $2 million from the Nats for one year, but he turned it down and
ended up signing a minor-league deal midway through spring training after he
was released by the Marlins.
Hopefully it works out better for Peralta, a good guy who can fill a number
of roles out of the bullpen who's got a good story -- did you know he
actually was signed as a shortstop as a teenager out of the Dominican
Republic? Hopefully he becomes a late-bloomer and keeps dominating like he
did this year.
If he does that with some other team, I don't think you can fault the
Nationals. They made a tough, probably unpopular decision. But it was also,
in my estimation, a sound decision.
