Strasburg doesn't make All-Star team Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg was left off this year's All-Star team and general manager Mike Rizzo wasn't surprised. It didn't help that Strasburg pitched in six big-league games and went 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings. A few weeks after saying he would embrace Strasburg going to the Midsummer Classic, Rizzo changed his tune Sunday. Rizzo went so far as to say that outfielder Josh Willingham, catcher Ivan Rodriguez and first baseman Adam Dunn deserved to go. As of now, only reliever Matt Capps in representing the Nationals. "As far as his numbers and stats, I don't believe [Strasburg] deserved to be on the All-Star team this year," Rizzo said. "Too many people would have been left off to put him on. There are only so many spots. "It's a tough job for [Phillies manager] Charlie Manuel to pick the team. There are always guys we feel are left off, and hopefully they use that as incentive to show that they did belong in the All-Star Game during the second half of the season." Manuel has the same opinion as Rizzo. Manuel feels that Strasburg needed to earn his way on to the All-Star Game. "I'm not his manager, but he's a young kid and I say let him pitch, let him get his feet on the ground in the Major Leagues," Manuel said. "Let him earn his way. I think it's better that he stays and pitches (with the Nationals). In the long run, I think that he'll learn more from that. You're not taking a chance of putting him out there too quickly." Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said there will be plenty of All-Star Games for Strasburg in the future. "Hopefully he'll stay healthy and represent the Nationals in the future along with some of our other guys," Riggleman said. "I certainly see the logic.
